Overview
Missouri College, of Brentwood, Missouri, was founded in 1963 to fill the need for trained professionals in dental and medical offices in the St. Louis metropolitan area. The programs have evolved over the years to keep pace with the demands of the marketplace and the needs of employers. In addition to dental and healthcare curricula, the school has added specialty tracks in business administration and massage therapy. For 40+ years, Missouri College has offered students the opportunity to obtain innovative, industry-focused training in a variety of fields.

Short-term professional programs with hands-on training are available to help prepare students for prospective careers in as little as 11 months. Career services assistance is available to all students and alumni.

- Health Information Management-AASHealth Information Management-AAS
The Health Information Management program is designed to prepare students to pursue careers in a variety of healthcare settings, including medical offices, hospitals, clinics, and skilled-care facilities. The curriculum is structured to include didactic instruction in several areas, including, but not limited to, health data management, diagnostic and procedure coding, medical billing practices, healthcare reimbursement and delivery systems, health record maintenance, information technology, organizational resources, medical law and ethics, medical terminology, and anatomy and physiology. The final portion of the curriculum includes a supervised clinical externship at a healthcare facility. At the completion of the program, graduates should have the knowledge and skills necessary to seek entry-level employment in the field of health information management.
- Dental Hygiene-AASDental Hygiene-AAS
The Dental Hygiene program at Missouri College is designed to provide students with a comprehensive and interdisciplinary plan of studies, through applied theory and practical applications, to become entry-level dental hygienists qualified for employment in clinical practice and alternative career settings. Students receive training in general education, biomedical sciences, dental sciences and dental hygiene sciences. The core curriculum is structured to include a lecture component, a laboratory component, and a clinical component. The final 45 weeks of the curriculum includes supervised experiences in a clinical environment which requires competencies, logs, and evaluations completed by the student. At the conclusion of the program, graduates who have diligently attended class and completed their clinical duties should have the skills to seek entry-level employment as dental hygienists.
- BA Healthcare ManagementBA Healthcare Management
Designed to provide students who already possess an associate degree in a healthcare-related field with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage health care organizations and services, this program combines professional competencies with a core of business education ranging from management in health care settings to finance and law to human resource management. In addition, students have the opportunity to compile a work-based portfolio highlighting their management, communication, leadership and teamwork skill sets. Graduates typically become mid-level managers of health care management teams in hospitals, physicians' offices, auxiliary service organizations, public health programs, community-based medical service programs, and other health-related organizations.
- BA Human Resource ManagementBA Human Resource Management
With emphasis on management and leadership, ethics, methodology, and employee profiling, this program promotes employee knowledge, welfare and development by looking at best practices and benchmarking trends. Students also explore employment laws, hiring and termination techniques, resume building, and business writing, with work-based projects for application of how to motivate, evaluate, train, hire and the current legal parameters surrounding a business' employee base. Enrollees often develop a comprehensive portfolio highlighting their human resource management, communication, leadership and teamwork skill sets by graduation.
- Diploma Dental AssistantDiploma Dental Assistant
This program offers training in dental anatomy, pathology and terminology, dental instruments and materials, x-rays and radiography, chairside assisting techniques, as well as dental laboratory and office administration procedures. Through lectures, laboratory work, and clinical externship, students are thoroughly prepared to seek entry-level employment as dental assistants.
- Diploma in Fitness TrainerDiploma in Fitness Trainer
The Fitness Trainer program at Missouri College is designed to educate students who will be committed to providing quality fitness and wellness services to the general public. The Fitness Trainer curriculum will promote a comprehensive healthy lifestyle through safe and effective exercise, nutrition, and a general knowledge of disease management. The courses will cover a variety of subjects including anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, fitness assessment and exercise program design, muscle development, cardiovascular fitness, and the needs of special populations. In addition to the health and wellness curriculum, there will be courses dedicated to establishing a successful career in the industry including marketing and sales, applied teaching and motivational techniques, and the fundamentals of business management. Also, students will typically, but not always, be taught by more than one instructor during their program of study. Students are required to complete a supervised clinical externship at a fitness facility that includes competencies, logs and evaluations completed by the student. At the completion of the program, graduates who have diligently attended class and their externship, studied, and practiced their skills should have the necessary skills to seek entry-level employment as fitness trainers.
- Diploma Massage TherapyDiploma Massage Therapy
Students of this curriculum receive training in therapeutic massage principles, hydrotherapy and allied therapeutic modalities, including massage techniques, the external application of water, heat, cold, topical preparations, and mechanical devices. Graduates often seek entry-level employment as massage therapists.
- Diploma Medical AssistantDiploma Medical Assistant
The coursework of this program encompassed medical practice, medical law and ethics, medical communications, medical records, insurance, patient preparation, and basic laboratory procedures and tests. Grouped around the knowledge and skills required for administrative and clinical medical assisting, this track prepares students to assist medical providers in an office and/or medical center.
- Diploma Medical Billing/Administrative SpecialistDiploma Medical Billing/Administrative Specialist
This program is designed to provide students with the appropriate didactic theory and skills required to begin a career in office administration and management within a health care setting. The courses are grouped around knowledge and skills required for an administrative role in a medical practice. The program should also prepare students for responsibilities including insurance coding, processing, medical administrative procedures and regulatory requirements of the health care delivery system. Courses are not necessarily offered in the sequences in which they appear in the catalog. Also, students will typically, but not always, be taught by more than one instructor during their program of study. After the didactic portion of their program, students are required to complete a supervised externship at a medical facility or office that includes competencies, logs and evaluations completed by the student. At the completion of the program, graduates who have diligently attended class and their externship, studied, and practiced their skills should have the necessary skills to seek entry-level employment in an administrative role in a medical setting.
Missouri College cannot guarantee employment or salary. Credits earned are unlikely to transfer.
