Overview
Founded in 1986, Pacific College of Oriental Medicine offers associates, bachelors and masters programs specializing in acupuncture, massage, Chinese herbal medicine, and integrative medicine. Since inception, the private institution has been at the forefront of providing Oriental medical and body therapy education to students from around the world, while working with lawmakers and medical professionals to advance the standards of both the profession and the College's curriculum. PCOM's programs cover an array of courses including acupuncture, Shiatsu, Tui Na, Thai massage, and the principles of natural nutrition.
Student Appeal
Faculty members of Pacific College have the ability to teach Eastern medicine with an understanding of Western modalities, combining knowledge of these two practices to provide students with a complete, comprehensive perspective. Classroom education is enhanced by hands-on training to better prepare for practical career scenarios. The diverse background of instructors includes acupuncturists, massage therapists, medical doctors, and Taoist practitioners. Day, evening, and weekend classes are offered on both full- or part-time basis to accommodate students with other commitments. In addition to the school's on-site community clinic, it also maintains numerous partnerships with local hospitals and clinics for student internships and clinical rotations in integrative care settings.

The Associate of Applied Science (Holistic Health Science) is a two-year degree program that demonstrates significant training to massage patients and prospective employers. Graduates of the program are eligible for certification and licensure, and prepared to enter a career in massage and body therapy either in private practice, or in the employment of another qualified healthcare practitioner, such as an acupuncturist, spa owner, or chiropractor.

The purpose of the associate's degree program is to prepare students for employment nationally in the profession of body therapy and massage, and for certification by the National Commission for Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). The massage program emphasizes Oriental medicine theory, addressing the body, mind, and spirit.

The purpose of the bachelor's program is to prepare students for employment in the fields of Asian holistic health and massage. A Bachelor of Professional Studies in Asian Holistic Health and Massage is awarded following the completion of a minimum of 64.5 units of upper division work. Some of the courses students will take in this program include: Western anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, Western neuroanatomy, and a survey of Chinese medicine.

The Massage Therapist/ Asian Bodywork Certificate offers significant body therapy training and emphasizes Oriental medical theory, tui na, and the development of the student's ability to understand the causes and symptoms of disease. Asian Bodywork Therapy has grown into a recognized specialty supported by the American Organization of Bodywork Therapies of Asia and is certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
Students in this program receive an introduction to the valuable theories of Chinese medicine and specialize in a multitude of Asian bodywork therapies including tui na, shiatsu, Thai massage, and others.
