Overview
Ridley-Lowell Business & Technical Institute has campuses in Binghamton and Poughkeepsie, NY and in Danbury and New London, CT. The school offers a variety of career training courses in areas including Accounting, Medical Assisting, Medical Billing and Coding and Legal Office Assisting. The main campus in Poughkeepsie has been serving students since 1850, and all four campuses offer day and night course schedules.

Student Appeal
Ridley-Lowell offers very flexible schedules, day and night classes, and a low student to teacher ratio. Additionally, no liberal arts classes are required, so students can take only the classes they need to achieve their career and personal goals. The majority of the evening programs can be finished in as little as eleven months.

Financial
Financial aid is available to those who qualify. Ridley-Lowell is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).

  • AccountingAccounting
    This program helps prepare students for entry-level accounting/bookkeeping positions, such as general bookkeeper, accounts receivable or accounts payable clerk, payroll clerk and others. Students may also enroll in additional courses in Business Law, Computer Applications, Cost Accounting, and Taxes and Financial Statement Preparation.
  • Administrative AssistantAdministrative Assistant
    Students who complete this program can have an excellent background in office procedures, principles of accounting, and records management. Students can acquire skills including speedwriting, keyboarding, and transcription. The graduates of this program can be qualified for jobs as executive assistants, office manager, secretaries and administrative assistants.
  • Computerized BookkeepingComputerized Bookkeeping
    Graduates of this program can be prepared for jobs in the today's business environment. Students can study all facets of the accounting cycle, including trial balance, adjusting entries, worksheet, and financial reports. Students can also be able to interpret and understand special journals--sales, purchases and accounts payable/receivable.

    The criminal justice program includes education in law enforcement, parole, security, corrections, juvenile justice, and criminal investigation to help prepare graduates for entry-level positions with prisons, jails, private corporations, security, and police services.

    Students can train to become an entry-level electrician or to enter an electrician apprenticeship. Curriculum includes fundamental electrical safety, measurement, and wiring skills, along with how to read schematics and blueprints.

    This program helps prepare students for entry-level positions in the accounting field. Students can be trained in several software applications, including a computerized accounting package. Graduates can be qualified for positions such as accounts receivable clerk and as accounts payable clerk.

  • Medical Administrative AssistantMedical Administrative Assistant
    This program helps prepare students with the necessary knowledge and skills used in medical facilities in an administrative capacity. Students can receive training in medical office procedures, terminology, coding, billing, and transcription.
  • Medical AssistantMedical Assistant
    Students in this program can learn both administrative and clinical duties used in a doctor's office or hospital. Graduates of this program can be able to obtain a patient's history, take vital signs, perform routine tests, and assist the physician by preparing the room and patient for exams, as well as a host of administrative tasks.
  • Medical Billing and Coding SpecialistMedical Billing and Coding Specialist
    Students who complete this program can be able to work in facilities that handle billing for medical services. Graduates can acquire strong knowledge of medical codes and insurance which is necessary to be proficient as a specialist. Students can take courses in anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, computer fundamentals, and legal issues of the profession.
  • Networking and Technical Support SpecialistNetworking and Technical Support Specialist
    Students in this program can benefit from hands-on experience in computer operating systems, computer hardware and maintenance, software applications, basic and advanced networking skills including hardware and maintenance, help desk and the Internet. These skills can be transferable to a wide range of companies.

    Students in this program can have the opportunity to develop and polish administrative skills. Students may take a variety of classes in topics including accounting principles, records management, and office procedures, as well as computer software. Graduates of the program can be prepared to work as a secretary, payroll clerk, or accounts payable/receivable clerk.
